Hi, I’m Soph!

This is where I share my notes from the books, podcasts, and ideas that are quietly changing my life. Not expertise, just honest reflections from someone still figuring it out.

Learning, not perfection.

Modern Tree of Life showing six connected areas: Roots, Heart, Body, Mind, Soul and Purpose.

About Me

I’m French , a mum of three, a notebook hoarder and an eager learner still figuring things out.

In 2020, after 18 years living in the UK, my family and I moved back to France. I thought I was coming home. Instead, I fell apart.

The timing was brutal. Covid restrictions back on after the opening in the Summer which allowed us to escape the UK. No job. Limited savings. Three children to settle into a new country, a new language, a new life. And me – alone with my thoughts in a house that didn’t feel like mine yet, doing endless chores and administrative French “paperasse” whilst my husband worked.

I recognised the darkness. I’d had three postnatal depressions. I knew what it felt like to not feel like myself. But this time, I didn’t want medication. I wanted another way.

A conversation with my physio led me to a Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner named Michelle Colomer. In one session, she gave me two book recommendations that changed everything: The Bullet Journal Method and Petit Traité de la Vie Intérieure.

That was the beginning.

I started writing. Every morning, I’d take notes while listening to the “Change ma Vie” podcast. Slowly, I began to see that my dark, gloomy thoughts weren’t facts – they were patterns. And patterns could be changed.

Since then, I’ve read over 60 books on mindset, mental health, parenting, and personal growth. I have 11 notebooks dedicated to different areas of my life: from gratitude to gardening, from parenting to negative thoughts. I write because it helps me stop overthinking and it also helps me remember what I read. I write because the simple act of pen on paper feels like therapy.

Why “Notes from Soph”?

Because that’s exactly what this is: my notes. Not expertise. Not advice from someone who has it all figured out. Far from it, trust me! Just the scribblings of a woman who reads a lot, thinks a lot, and wants to share what she’s finding along the way.

I believe life is about learning, not perfection. (I once wanted to call this blog “Parfaitement Imparfaite” , “Perfectly Imperfect ” and that spirit is still here.)

My biggest struggle? Parenting. It’s where all my learnings vanish the moment frustration brings anger or autopilot kicks in. I’m working on it. I’ll probably always be working on it as perfection does not exist.

What you’ll find here

  • Book notes and takeaways – the best bits from what I’m reading, condensed onto one page
  • Podcast learnings – ideas that made me think differently
  • Life experiments – what I’m trying, what’s working, what’s not
  • Honest reflections – because growth isn’t linear and I’m not pretending it is

Three words that describe me

Determined. Motivated. Gritty.

My word for 2026 is GRIT. It feels right for where I am.

Welcome to my notes.

I hope you find something useful here. Or at least, I hope you feel a little less alone in the mess of trying to grow while also living a full, imperfect life.
